THE HOLOCAUST What do you know about the Holocaust? The Holocaust took place during World War II. Hitler and the Nazi party thought that the German Aryan race should become the “master race,” and wanted to get rid of anyone whom they thought was inferior. The Holocaust is what we call the mass killing of these people. The Holocaust took place all over Europe. People were arrested and sent to concentration camps. At the concentration camps, many people were killed by the Nazis in gas chambers. Others were forced to become slaves for the Nazi Party. Many Jewish citizens tried to hide from the Nazi’s in order to survive. The Diary of Anne Frank tells the story of one family who went into hiding. The Holocaust did not just affect the Jews. Hitler and the Nazi’s wanted to get rid of any person that he thought was “undesirable,” including African-Americans, Gypsies, and people with disabilities. Hitler tried to kill entire groups of people. This is known as genocide. After World War II, there were laws created to keep people safe, but it was too late for the millions of people who died during the Holocaust. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
