COLONIZATION What are Colonists? People who leave their countries and live in a colony are called colonists. A colony is a settlement governed by another country. Why Colonize? Europeans established colonies in the New World in the 1500's and 1600's for many different reasons: The Spanish were searching for wealth for their country and converts to their religion. The French were trying to get rich by fur trading. The English were searching for religious freedom. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
