COLONIZATION What are Colonists? People who leave their countries and live in a colony are called colonists. A colony is a settlement governed by another country. Why Colonize? Europeans established colonies in the New World in the 1500's and 1600's for many different reasons: • The Spanish were searching for wealth for their country and converts to their religion. • The French were trying to get rich by fur trading. • The English were searching for religious freedom. © Copyright NewPath Learning.
