THE PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES WANTED: President of the United States Head of the Executive Branch of government Requirements: 35 years or older natural born citizen at least 14 years as a resident in the U.S. Job Description: 4 year term: (You might be reelected for another 4 years.) Head of State: You must greet guests when they come to the White House. You will also travel a lot, meeting other important world leaders. Treaties: Sometimes you will have to work out treaties and other agreements. They might be about trade, or about the money that you give to other countries. Commander-in-Chief: You are the Commander of the armed forces. You can send the troops anywhere in the world. Keep the peace and protect this country. Work with your Cabinet: Since you do not know everything, you will get to choose people to be head of 14 departments. The Secretary of State, Secretary of Agriculture, and Secretary of Defense are some of the departments. Work with Congress: Congress will look at new laws and decide whether to approve them or not. Once the Congress approves a bill, they will send it to you. You can do three main things: o Sign the bill and make it law o Send the bill back to Congress for changes o Veto it Give Speeches: When each session of Congress starts, you will give the “State of the Union” speech. Choose Ambassadors: These people will be sent to other countries to represent the United States.
