Study Guide The Aztecs Social Studies, Grade 7

EARLY AMERICAN CIVILIZATIONS AZTECS What do you know about the Aztecs? The Aztecs lived in the area that is now Mexico, and were one of the largest Mesoamerican societies. The Aztecs were a complex society with a governmental structure advanced for their time. The Aztecs were also known for their religious ceremonies and great temples that were built to honor their gods. The Aztecs believed in human sacrifice and were quite brutal in the sacrificial rites. The Aztecs worshiped the sun, and created calendars to keep track of their religious ceremonies. Although there is little written history of the Aztec Civilization, we are able to learn about them through archaeological exploration of their art, architecture, and the ruins of their cities. In the 16th century, the Aztec Civilization ended as a result of the Spanish conquistadores. There is still evidence of the Aztec way of life in Mexico today. © Copyright NewPath Learning.
