ALL ABOUT PLANTS What do plants need to grow? A plant needs four things in order to grow: • A plant needs water to grow. • A plant needs air to grow. • A plant needs sunlight to grow. • A plant needs room in which to grow. How does a plant grow? A plant begins as a seed. A seed has a tiny plant inside of it! • A seed comes from an adult plant. • A seed falls to the ground. • Once in the ground, a seed begins to grow in the soil. • Roots grow from a seed down into the ground. • A young plant grows up through the soil. • Soon the young plant grows into an adult plant. © Copyright NewPath Learning. Parts of a Plant A plant has different parts. Each part has a special job to do to keep the plant alive. Roots • The roots help keep the plant in the soil. Stem • The stem on a plant brings the water from the roots to the rest of the plant, like a straw. • The stem also helps the plant stand up straight so it can reach the sunlight.
