CONVERT ONE MEASUREMENT TO ANOTHER There are many units of measurement: inches, feet, yards, miles, millimeters, meters, seconds, minutes, hours, cups, pints, quarts, gallons, ounces, pounds, etc. Different types of measurements may have a relationship. The relationships are predetermined, for instance: 12 inches = 1 foot 3 feet = 1 yard 5280 feet = 1 mile 1000 millimeters = 1 meter 100 centimeters = 1 meter 100 meters = 1 kilometer One measurement can be converted to another by using the formulas for conversion. How to convert one measurement to another: Begin by choosing the correct formula. Input the new value into the formula: o To convert inches to feet o Use the formula, 12 inches = 1 foot o Input the new value: 4 X 12 inches = 4 feet o 48 inches = 4 feet Remember, all equations must be balanced. Whatever is done to one side must be done to the other o To convert minutes to hours o Use the formula, 60 minutes = 1 hour o Input the new value: 5 X 60 minutes = 5 hours o 300 minutes = 5 hours The correct relationships are often memorized, and others can be found in books or on the internet. Be sure to use the correct formula. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved. Permission is granted for the purchaser to print copies for non-commercial educational purposes only.
