Putting Decimals in Order from Least to Greatest When putting decimals in order from least to greatest, we must look at the HIGHEST place value first. If we needed to put the following decimals in order from least to greatest, the greatest place value is the ONES place in each number. So let’s compare the numbers in the ONES place in each decimal: 8.246 7.541 9.342 Now we can put the decimals in order from least to greatest because we know: 7 < 8 < 9 We now can put these decimals in order from least to greatest: 7.541 8.246 9.342 If the decimals have the SAME number in the highest place, then you need to look at the NEXT highest place: 37.125 33.527 35.936 We now can put these decimals in order from least to greatest: 33.527 35.936 37.125 Keep looking at each next highest place in order to find the GREATER decimal. Another example: 16.157 16.729 16.125 We now can put these decimals in order from least to greatest: 16.125 16.157 16.729 © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
