ROUNDING NUMBERS What Is Rounding? • To express a number to the nearest given place. • Rounding means reducing the digits in a number while trying to keep its value similar. How to Round: • The number in the given place is increased by one if the digit to its right is 5 or greater. • The number in the given place remains the same if the digit to its right is less than 5. • The digits to the right of the given place become zeros. Digits to the left remain the same. Example: 73 rounded to the nearest ten is 70, because 73 is closer to 70 than to 80. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
