MEAN, MEDIAN, AND MODE What Are Mean, Median and Mode? Mean is the average of a set of numbers. Median is the middle number in a set of numbers that are ordered from least to greatest. Mode is the number that appears most in a set of numbers. How to find the Mean, Median and Mode: To find the Mean, you add up a set of numbers and divide the sum by the number of items in the set. The mean of the numbers 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 is 6. 3 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 9 = 30 30/5 = 6 To find the Median, you list the numbers of a set in order from least to greatest and find the one in the middle.
