COMPARING AND ORDERING NUMBERS What Is Comparing and Ordering Numbers? • Ordering numbers means listing numbers from least to greatest, or greatest to least. • Comparing numbers means looking at the values of two numbers and deciding if the numbers are greater than, less than, or equal to each other. • Two symbols are used in comparing numbers: < (less than) and > (greater than). How to Compare and Order Numbers: Ordering Numbers Place the numbers in order from least to greatest, or greatest to least. Example: 45, 62, 79 (least to greatest) 100, 81, 54 (greatest to least) Comparing Numbers Compare two numbers and decide if they are less than, greater than, or equal to each other.
