UNITS OF MEASURE What Are Units of Measurement? People measure mass, volume, and length. These measurements are labeled with the appropriate unit of measurement. How to use units of measurement: 1. Weight or mass is the amount of heaviness of an object • Ounces to measure small objects such as letters and potato chips • Pounds to measure standard objects such as potatoes and people • Tons to measure large objects such as cars 2. Capacity is the amount of liquid an object can hold • Cup is used to measure small amounts o Pint = 2 cups o Quart = 2 pints o Gallon = 4 quarts 3.
