VOCABULARY Your vocabulary is made up words that you know how to pronounce, know the correct meaning of, and know how to use properly in a sentence. Your vocabulary includes many kinds of words such as adjectives, adverbs, along with other parts of speech. What is an Adjective? An adjective describes a noun. Example: The frightened cat ran away from the dog. What is an Adverb? An adverb is a word that describes or modifies a verb. An adverb gives you more information about a verb and tells when, where, how, and to what extent. An adverb often ends in –ly. Examples: Brian ran quickly across the field. I went to the park yesterday. Your vocabulary may also include words that have similar or opposite meanings. Synonyms and Antonyms Synonyms are words that have similar meanings. Example: Brave and courageous are synonyms. Learning synonyms for words you use often in your writing can make your writing MORE exciting!
