PROBLEM SOLUTION What is the Problem of a Story? The problem of a story is the trouble or difficulty in which the main character of a story finds himself or herself. When reading a story, you will understand it better if you can identify the problem of the story. When writing a story, in order to make the story more interesting, make sure that the main character has a problem. What is the Solution of a Story? The solution of a story is the way that the character or characters in the story figure out or solve the problem of the story. When reading a story, make sure to identify the solution to the problem in the story. When writing a story, make sure to figure out a clever way for the characters to solve the problem in the story. Examples 1] Leslie hid behind the house. Carlos could not find her and started to cry. When Leslie came out, Carlos stopped crying. Problem: Carlos could not find Leslie and he started to cry. Solution: Leslie came out and Carlos stopped crying. 2] Kim did not have time to do her Math homework last night, so she asked her teacher if she could stay in at recess and do it. Her teacher said, "Yes." Problem: Kim did not have time to do her Math homework last night. Solution: Kim stayed in during recess to do her homework. Try This! When Bryan got home from school, he wanted a snack. There was nothing he liked in the kitchen. Bryan went to the store and bought a snack.
