They are arranged in a way that puts all the information together so that it is clear and easy to read. There are many types of charts and illustrations. Here are some you should know. Bar graphs - colored lines called bars are shown so you can compare items. Look for the title of the graph, the key of symbols, the items being measured on the side, and the measurements along the top or bottom. Pie chart - similar to a bar graph, but arranged in a circle with lines drawn that look like pieces of pie. Maps and globes - models of areas on the land. Maps and globes help you locate places. Calendars - All of the months for a year are arranged in order. Each day of each month is arranged in order. Scoreboard - Shows the teams, their scores and penalties, the amount of time left in playing a sport. Tally chart - a way of keeping track of numbers by making lines called tallies. Every time the amount reaches 5, a diagonal line crosses 4 tallies to indicate 5. Then it is easy to count by fives to get the total. A standard round clock face is a kind of chart. You can watch the short hour hand, long minute hand, and sometimes the second hand move around the clock. Remember the short hand only points to the numbers you see as they are the hours.
