COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY What is the Commutative Property? • The Commutative Property is used in addition. • Commutative Property is when a number sentence is turned around and it still means the same thing. How to Figure Out Commutative Property Problems: • Using the Commutative Property, it can be said that 3 + 2 = 5 is the same as 2 + 3 = 5. This means that 3 + 2 = 2 + 3. No matter which way the 2 and the 3 sit, the answer remains the same. 4 + 6 = 10 6 + 4 = 10 4 + 6 = 6 + 4 This is the Commutative Property. • The Commutative Property cannot be used with subtraction problems. For example, 3 – 2 = 1, but 2 – 3 = does not make sense. Try This!
